St. Mary’s County Finance Director Steven E. Welkos was arrested last week on his way home from a local tavern and charged with drunken driving, Maryland State Police said this week. It was his second drunken driving arrest in three years.

Police said that after Welkos failed field sobriety tests, he was taken to the Maryland State Police barrack in Leonardtown, where he was charged with driving while intoxicated and unsafe lane-changing. A Breathalyzer test at the barrack showed his blood alcohol level at 0.15 percent, well above the legal limit, they said.
