DWI. No three letters stir emotions more in San Juan County. Driving while intoxicated affects far too many lives in northwest New Mexico, and really all of the Four Corners. In worst-case scenarios, DWI kills. Twenty-two people lost their lives in alcohol-related traffic accidents in San Juan County in 2006. While the fatality statistics had seen annual improvements in recent years, last year saw another jump in deaths.
