Nguyen’s brother-in-law, T. Nguyen, said the couple arrived in the United States eight years ago by boat after escaping from the communist regime in South Vietnam, where Chau was a captain in the air force. Their youngest child, [Tina Chau], now 10, had come earlier, when she was 4 months old, and the couple and their other children, Khai [Dan Van Chau] and Bich Trang Chau, now 13 and 15, followed, he said. Nguyen said he was not sure with whom the children will live permanently. He and his wife, Bich Nguyen, cared for Tina before her parents’ arrival from South Vietnam, he said.
