Virginia football player Willie Davis was ordered to pay $414 in fines and court fees and had his driver’s license suspended for one year after being found guilty on a DWI charge yesterday in Albemarle General District Court. Davis, 20, was stopped by police March 19. His once promising football career has been in limbo since he suffered a serious neck and shoulder injury early last season. While in court, Davis also testified on behalf of teammate Kenneth Tynes, a Centreville graduate who had been arrested after throwing a chair through a window April 28 in the aftermath of the shooting of teammate Jamaine Winborne. Tynes was found not guilty yesterday of a misdemeanor charge of damaging property. Darby Lowe, the assistant Commonwealth’s attorney who prosecuted the case, said Tynes admitted throwing the chair but testified he was upset his friend had just been shot and that he thought he saw someone in the window holding a gun. Tynes has since paid to have the window replaced. Two other Cavaliers, Marques Hagans and Brandon Lee, are scheduled to appear in court June 1 on disorderly conduct charges stemming from the post-shooting confusion. |
