Most of the riders involved in the accident were members of the Iron Horsemen motorcycle club in Waldorf and were planning to participate in yesterday’s national “Toy Run” to Baltimore, friends and family members said. The event, which draws more than 50,000 riders from across the country, is sponsored annually by the Motorcyclists for Operation Santa Claus, the Salvation Army and other nonprofit organizations. Participants collect toys and funds for Christmas presents for needy children.

Prince George’s police said [Bobby Dean Coates]’s car swerved across the center line of Bealle Hill Road, about one mile from his home on Biddle Road, and struck three motorcycles head-on about 1:20 a.m.
